New Streetlights
The Department of Transportation (DOT) approved the installation of twenty-nine (29) new streetlights. The new streetlights will be an improvement from the current fixtures with their sleeker design and greater illumination. This long awaited initiative will be unveiled in the fall of 2011.
Jamaica Alliance
In collaboration with the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, Jamaica Alliance promotes a vibrant, safe and attractive downtown Jamaica. The Alliance has made progress installing new planters, improving street lighting, regularly monitoring streetscape conditions, and partnering with local businesses and institutions to market and promote the Downtown's strategic advantage and amenities. The alliance programs include a greeter program, an informational kiosk and security patrol.
Shopping Bag Giveaway
Enjoy shopping on the Mall with your 165th Street Mall shopping bag. The shopping bags are given away every Saturday on the corner of 165th Street and 89th Avenue (while supplies last). Also watch out for the 165th Street Mall shopping bags on the Jamaica Alliance kiosk at selected locations throughout downtown Jamaica.
